Annual Renewal Costs

The following information does not pertain to the initial registration of a vehicle. This information is about annual renewal for years subsequent to initial registration. Since initial registration includes onetime fees, sales tax and plate options, an estimate is more complex. Feel free to call (423) 209-6525 for help estimating your registration.

Renewal Costs for four basic plates are included in the “Check List” below.

1. Chattanooga City Sticker--$5
   Only residents of Chattanooga are subject to purchase the city sticker. Stickers may be obtained during the renewal process both online and in person. View details regarding city stickers.
2. Electric, Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles require additional fees upon renewal.
3. Plate Type (Total fee amounts updated July 1, 2024):

Standard Plate	$29.00 Add $5 for a total of $34 if renewing by mail. Add $6 for a total of $35 if renewing by internet
Personalized Standard Plate	Standard issue plate personalized by choosing up to 7 characters which must be approved by the state. $65.00 * Add $5 for a total of $70 if renewing by mail. Add $6 for a total of $71 if renewing by internet
Specialty Plate	Tennessee has hundreds of specialty plates ranging from organizations to sports. $65.00 * Add $5 for a total of $70 if renewing by mail. Add $6 for a total of $71 if renewing by internet
Personalized Specialty Plate	Any Specialty Plate may be personalized with state approval. $100 * Add $5 for a total of $105 if renewing by mail. Add $6 for a total of $106 if renewing by internet

* All Personalized plates are processed uniquely from other types of plates. Initial registration requires application to be made to the State for approval, and an initial plate fee is remitted to the State.
